Hunters and nature lovers migrate to Southern
Illinois each year to participate in some of the greatest outdoor
activities in the mid-west. Long lasting memories are made by young and
old. Autumn finds thousands of hunters spreading out across the vast
acreage of the region to hunt doves, squirrels, deer, turkeys, and many
species of ducks and geese. The Canada goose season allows a hunter to
hunt until the end of January, however, the snow geese season extends into
March. Hunters don't put away their scatter-guns because the turkey season
begins in April and lasts into May. All Southern Illinois counties have
quality hunting on private and public lands and offer thousands of acres
for some of the finest hunting experiences in the country.Southern
Illinois Hunting information, regulations, hunting zones and seasons,
sunrise-sunset time tables, and other information is available free in a
booklet entitled "Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations." A copy may
be obtained at local bait shops and license vendors in the state or by
writing the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, One Natural
Resources Way, Springfield, IL 62702.
